These pop-up alerts (fake virus warnings, prize notifications, etc.) come from a website you accidentally gave permission to send notifications — not from Chrome or your computer itself. Here's how to stop them.

Step 1: Open Chrome Settings

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Settings.

Step 2: Go to Notification Settings

  1. In the left menu, click Privacy and security.
  2. Click Site Settings.
  3. Click Notifications.

Step 3: Remove the Sites Sending Fake Alerts

  1. Under "Allowed to send notifications," look for any site names you don't recognize, or that look suspicious (random letters/numbers, unfamiliar names).
  2. Click the three dots (⋮) next to each suspicious site and select Remove (or Block).
  3. Repeat until the list only has sites you trust.

Tip: If you're not sure which site is causing it, remove all of them — you can always re-allow a trusted site later.

Step 4 (Recommended): Stop Sites From Asking in the Future

  1. Still on the Notifications page, find the setting near the top.
  2. Select Don't allow sites to send notifications (or turn off "Sites can ask to send notifications").
  3. This stops any new site from prompting you for permission.

Step 5: Restart Chrome

Close and reopen Chrome to make sure the changes take effect.

A Word of Caution

These fake notifications are often scams. If a pop-up says your computer is infected, that you won a prize, or asks you to call a phone number or download something — don't click it. Just follow the steps above to remove it.
